When hair is damaged, it becomes porous and absorbs 3 times more calcium naturally present in water. Every time the hair comes into contact with water, calcium builds up on it and creates persistent damage. Calcium creeps between the keratin chains and breaks their bonds, making the hair stiff and brittle, thus increasing the risk of breakage.
